Tutor Spotlight: Jill P.
For this tutor, chemistry runs in the family.
Tutor.com is proud to have such a diverse and accomplished group of tutors. Jill P. majored in Forensic Chemistry as an undergraduate at Ohio University and later received an MS in Analytical Chemistry from Florida State. Her favorite classes in high school were chemistry and physics, but Jill's love of science began much earlier than that—in fact, you could say she was born into it.
We recently sat down with Jill to profile one of our best science tutors:
Do you have a background in education?
As a matter of fact, I come from a very chemistry-oriented family. My husband has his PhD in chemistry, my sister is working on her PhD in chemistry, and my mom taught high school chemistry for 15 years. I taught high school chemistry and AP Chemistry myself for two years before staying home with my family.
Why did you become an online tutor?
I really enjoy tutoring and helping students understand chemistry. I find it rewarding to share my knowledge and passion for science with students just being introduced to the subject. I also have two young children and love the flexibility that online tutoring offers.
What are your favorite books?
One of my favorites is The Time Traveler's Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger. I also really enjoyed Heat, by Bill Buford.
What do you do in your spare time?
When I am not tutoring or chasing after my kids, I enjoy running. I have run three marathons and several half-marathons.
